Publicly, the reasons remained a mystery after the game, with coach Jeff Hornacek saying "everything will become clear later on" and teammate Joakim Noah saying Rose was OK. "It's as simple as that. We want to respect what he's going through".
The Knicks, losers of eight of their last nine games, were without guard Derrick Rose, whom team officials would only say was "not with the team".
"I'm not going to comment on any of that stuff", he added.
Rose has been privately critical of Hornacek, but no one in the locker room-or management-has expressed any issues with how Hornacek has coached Rose, league sources said. Atlanta won the game 102-98 in overtime.
The disappearance of Derrick Rose raises plenty of questions regarding his as-of-yet unexplained absence, his future with the Knicks and that of the team itself.
"That's insane. I never had a problem with a coach in my life, no matter what team I've been in on", Rose said. I just don't know anything. "Even though at this point I still feel like I'm missing something, I think it's going to come back really soon". He didn't elaborate much, but he said him skipping the game had nothing to do with anything related to basketball.
Hornacek had also refused to be drawn on reports that team staff members had been unable to contact Rose. It wasn't almost as close as the final score indicates, and that is due to Pelicans' star Anthony Davis missing the entire fourth quarter with an injury. "We've got to be able to correct the errors right away".
Rose is averaging 17.3 points on 44.3 percent shooting and 4.5 assists in 31.9 minutes per game for the Knicks this season.
Davis, who scored a game-high 40 points, made both free throws to stretch New Orleans' lead to 87-63, but left the game with a hip injury.
