"I expressed my profound dismay at the leaks that have been appearing in the press, and we both agreed that they are extremely corrosive and damaging to our national security", Clapper's statement said.
The private document, now released in entirety by BuzzFeed, makes several conclusions based on information it claims to have extracted from serving and retired Russian spies and associates of Mr. Trump.
A perturbed President-elect Donald Trump denied news reports that Russian operatives had amassed compromising personal and financial information on him, suggesting release of the material was a "tremendous blot" on the USA intelligence agencies.
During an at times rancorous press conference, he angrily denounced the publishing of claims he had been caught in a compromising position in Russian Federation and attacked news organisations for publishing the claims, while also lashing United States intelligence agencies over the leak of an explosive but unverified dossier. "Their rationale is "if we know about this so will other intelligence services".
According to the documents summarized in this briefing-which CNN's sources said were authored by a source they believe to be credible (a former agent for the British security agency MI6)-Trump engaged in a variety of sexual acts.
A number of senior journalists said that publishing unverified information isn't what journalism should be about.
"As President Reagan said, we need to trust, but verify".
When asked whether he had a message for Putin, Trump said: "He shouldn't be doing it". It also alleges people close to Trump kept in touch with Moscow during last year's presidential campaign.
While Trump has routinely attacked the U.S. free press, the U.S. Intelligence agencies and war heroes like John McCain, he's never said a negative thing about former KGB officer Vladimir Putin. I read the information outside of that meeting. During the later press conference, he said the leak was "something that Nazi Germany would have done and did do".
At the news conference in NY - meant to focus on how he will hand his business empire to his sons - Mr Trump turned on a CNN reporter for the "terrible" organisation "building the story up".
What does Russian Federation have on Trump?
NEW YORK ― President-elect Donald Trump called out the publication of unverified allegations about ties to Russian Federation as "fake news" during Wednesday's press conference, his first in almost six months.
"Let's take the politics out of this issue", Pascrell said. I say, "Hey wait a minute, he didn't leave the country".
That classified summary had been shown only to Trump, President Barack Obama and a group of senators from the Senate Intelligence Committee. While the travel details of Mr. Page and Mr. Trump tally with their locations mentioned in the report, in the case of Mr. Cohen it is way off the mark.
He also talked about how he plans to bring manufacturing jobs back from overseas plants, slamming drug companies for "getting away with murder" on pricing.
