Mitsubishi has revealed more details and pictures of its upcoming all-new SUV, which will make its first public appearance during next month's Geneva Motor Show.
Mitsubishi Motors Corp.is bringing the Eclipse back.
Though only teased at this stage, the Eclipse Cross is set to adhere to the styling direction previewed by the XR-PHEV and XR-PHEV II concept crossovers.
When viewed from the side, however, the XR-PHEV's design ethos has transitioned reasonably intact from drawing board to production line. The vehicle has been confirmed to be the Eclipse Cross and is expected to directly compete with the Nissan Qashqai as it known in Europe and Rogue Sport in the US. The concept's double glass rear windscreen looks to have survived relatively intact, too.
We reported a couple of weeks ago that we expected the new SUV to be named Mitsubishi Eclipse - reviving the name of a Mitsubishi Sports vehicle which didn't come to the United Kingdom - but it also gets "Cross" tagged on the end just so we don't get the two confused.
Whether the plug-in hybrid drivetrain of the Mitsubishi Outlander will expand to the Eclipse Cross remains to be seen.
A new turbocharged petrol unit and the same diesel found in the latest ASX range are likely to feature with the Eclipse Cross, along with a mixture of front-wheel and four-wheel drive powertrains.
The 87 Geneva International Motor Show is just a month away and auto enthusiasts are already excited and can't wait for the latest vehicle models and concept cars.
