Emily Blunt will take on the role of the titular caretaker, and as we can see in this first-look glimpse, she has that familiar Mary Poppins style with a slight twist.
Disney has revealed the first look at Mary Poppins Returns, the sequel to the beloved 1964 musical classic that starred Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. While we don't get a very good look at Blunt's face, she's draped in a blue coat with a brand new bag. In the story, Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jane (Emily Mortimer) are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen (Julie Walters), living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, Poppins (Blunt) reappears in the Banks' world and partners with street lamplighter Jack (Miranda) to help the family rediscover joy and magic in their lives.
The film pulls from stories within the other seven books of P.L. Travers' original children's series. The movie also features cinema legends Dick Van Dyke and Angela Lansbury.
The film's director is Rob Marshall, whose previous work includes Chicago and Into The Woods, while the script is being produced by Finding Neverland writer David Magee. Mary Poppins also introduces the children to a new assortment of colorful and whimsical characters, including her eccentric cousin, Topsy (Meryl Streep).
