YouTube TV subscription service revealed, launching this Spring

YouTube is not the first to offer such a service, as different providers have been cropping up over the past year or so. Users also gain access to YouTube Red original shows and an unlimited cloud DVR (1 per account) to record live TV. There are set to be 40 live streaming channels including news (ABC, CBS, Fox), sport (ESPN, Fox Sports Network), entertainment (FX, Disney Channel), and reality TV (E!, Bravo).

The base package will contain about three dozen channels. Though there are now more ways than ever to watch TV, the fact that the industry can't agree on a single way to let you watch its content presents challenges.

'Unlike online video, people can't watch TV when they want, on any screen and on their terms, without commitments.

According to PCMag, the Google subsidiary billed YouTube TV as a way to reimagine television for the YouTube generation. However, networks such as Fox Soccer Plus and Showtime require an additional fee.

YouTube TV works on Android and iOS. And your cloud DVR goes with you, so you can stream your recordings on any device, whenever and wherever you want.

YouTube TV said it will expand to cover more cities across the United States soon.

YouTube has said it is still in talks to get more partners to come on board, but for now, it looks like consumers will have to continue to settle with a hodgepodge of services (including rivals like Sling TV, Hulu and PlayStation's Vue) to get all of their favorite shows. However, CNN is one major network that is conspicuous by its absence from the current lineup on YouTube TV.

YouTube also announced a new way for YouTube creators to earn money from their live streams, an enhanced messaging service it calls Super Chat.
