Georgia students among the first visitors to the White House

Per Tuesday pool reports, a group of almost 100 people were gathered off the East Room when the president appeared. Coincidentally, the photo op was staged right in front of a portrait of former First Lady Hillary Clinton - Trump's opponent in the 2016 presidential election.

Oregon Senator Ron Wyden wants President Donald Trump and the Secret Service to release the White House visitor logs. The president then pulled Jack Cornish, 10, from Birmingham, Ala., from the crowd and hugged him as the visitors and journalists looked on.

But the British Embassy in the USA capital said that they have been advised that any foreign nationals interested in touring the White House are now unable to apply.

First Lady Melania Trump announced the re-opening of the free, public tours last month after a seven-week hiatus. "They are focusing on a seamless integration of elegance and comfort into where the president, the first lady, and Barron will be spending their family time and calling their home", she said in a statement to WWD.

There is a concern in the White House that a combative briefing can take away from the administration's attempt at orchestrated news, and the president prefers controlling the message himself, one White House official said.

The White House has been closed for tours since inauguration day as the new administration sorted out staffing and other logistics needed to usher in visitors to the 217-year-old house.

"It's the seat of our presidency", Jay Gnadt said after his tour.

Tours must be requested through a member of Congress. People can tour the White House from 7:30 a.m.to 11:30 a.m. EST on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and from 7:30 a.m.to 1:30 p.m. EST on Fridays and Saturdays.
