Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder, Mario Gotze, will not play this season according to news on the club's official website.
Dortmund revealed last month that Gotze would be out indefinitely after it was discovered by doctors that the player was suffering from metabolic disturbances.
If the player responds well to the treatment then he can return to training in the early summer. "The midfield player is now undergoing rehab and an individual training program". Regarding Gotze, a metabolic disease was detected in February, which made it necessary to remove the World Champion from training.
Gotze moved to league rivals Bayern Munich in 2013 after a successful season at the Westfalenstadion, one that saw him heralded as one of the most promising youngsters in the world.
"The overall sporting goal for the player is to be fully operational for the start of next season", which starts on Friday August 18 in Germany.
The German worldwide has not featured for Thomas Tuchel's side since the 1-1 draw with Mainz in late January, with the club confirming last month that he is suffering from a metabolic disorder.
Dortmund's chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke said: 'BVB wishes Mario Gotze a quick recovery on behalf of its 10 million fans'.
