Thimble, wheelbarrow, boot kicked out of Monopoly board game

Players with new games will no longer have the boot, wheelbarrow or thimble to choose from.

The three new tokens in Monopoly.

At the other end of the spectrum, the boot received 83,000 votes, the thimble received 81,000 votes and the poor wheelbarrow received 60,000. Today, the results of that vote are in.

Monopoly is a core property within Hasbro's games division, which also includes classics like Sorry!, Operation, and Hungry Hungry Hippos and the more modern Pie Face. Overall, more than 4.3 million votes were cast, across more than 100 countries, to come up with a decisive list of the most-wanted tokens for the board game.

While the Scottie dog, top hat, car, cat, and battleship tokens can breathe a sigh of relief, the iconic thimble, boot, and wheelbarrow tokens didn't make the cut. The classic hat and vehicle came next, with the ducky, cat, penguin and battleship rounding out the top list.

Following an online fan vote, eight tokens are set to ship with the next generation of Hasbro's Monopoly.

What do a penguin, a rubber ducky and a Tyrannosaurus rex have in common? The top hat emerged from the scrum unscathed, as did the battleship and racecar, all three of which have been staples since 1937. The iron was ditched and a cat charm took its place.

Although crowdsourcing input is unique for the brand, Hasbro has launched 300 different versions of Monopoly to date.

The vote order for these final, top eight were: Scottie 212,476, T-Rex 207,954, top hat 167,582, auto 165,083, duck 160,485, cat 154,165, penguin 146,661 and battleship 134,704. The fake holiday actually falls on Sunday, March 19, but that's not a good day for the announcement people, so here we are.
