Chiefs free agent defensive tackle Dontari Poe signs with Falcons

Bennie Logan also took a one-year, $8 million deal ($7.68M guaranteed) with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Poe is leaving the cash-strapped Chiefs after the club re-signed safety Eric Berry to a massive six-year, $78-million contract in February.

On Thursday, as first reported by ProFootballTalk, the falcons signed former Chiefs defensive tackle Dontari Poe. So the Colts will still have options, which means that Poe signing with the Falcons isn't the end of the world.

That well could be the case. He made the Pro Bowl each of those years. Poe may have declined or told the Chiefs to hold on while he looked for a better deal. Using Poe in the backfield as a decoy at some point this season wouldn't be surprising considering the Chief's success using him on offense. "I liked him [when he visited]". "We'll just let the process unfold as we go here". Atlanta had a serious void on the defensive line, as Jonathan Babineaux and Tyson Jackson were not going to be back with the Falcons.

Poe, 27 next season, is a five-year veteran and two-time Pro Bowler. This is a good, short-term deal for both Atlanta and Poe.

In 2016, Poe didn't miss a snap as he recorded a career-high nine pressures in 885 snaps, 16th-most among all National Football League defensive linemen, to go along with 27 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks. He had back surgery two years ago and hasn't been the same player since.

The top defensive tackles still on the free agency market include Johnathan Hankins and Sen'Derrick Marks.
