'Betrayed' Mulayam Yadav's Stinging Jibe For Akhilesh: 'Modi Was Right'

"While the people of UP voted for me in 2012, I chose to make Akhilesh the chief minister, but he humiliated me thereafter", he said. Moreover, it appears as if it's the senior who has taken an emotional blow than the son.

Branding former Uttar Pradesh chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's photograph on ration cards during the Samajwadi Party's regime as "cheap politics", the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday asserted that any social program should be not used for political objective.

Supporting PM Modi's jibe at Akhilesh during an election campaign in UP, Mulayam said: "It is true that a person who betrayed his own father can not be loyal to anyone".

Prior to polls, the SP family had witnessed a political turmoil with Akhilesh sidelining Mulayam and his influential brother Shivpal before taking over the reins of the party.

"The (PM's) statement and the public show of discord in the Yadav clan affected voters and led to the party's drubbing in the elections", Mulayam, who was in Mainpuri to inaugurate a hotel, said.

The veteran politician said he was the first politician to name his son the Chief Minister despite being active in political life.

Modi, during the frenzied political campaign in Uttar Pradesh, had blamed Akhilesh - the chief minister of India's northern state then - for insulting his father by going against him.

"But I did not say anything to anyone as my own blood was out against me", he said, calling it a tragedy that his son had joined hands with the Congress which thrice led "murderous attacks" on him.

Shivpal, the warring uncle of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, had threatened to launch a new party after the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
