"Jaguar has done the unthinkable by first securing the World Car Design of the Year award, then lifting the big one - the overall World Car of the Year trophy", said Mike Rutherford, juror, director and vice-chairman of the World Car Awards/World Car of the Year. The F-Pace beat more than 20 worthy contenders from around the world - and this includes a whole bunch of cars from the VW Group like the Audi Q5 and the Volkswagen Tiguan in the last round of voting. In the 13 years of the World Car of the Year Awards, the F-Pace is only the second vehicle to win both "Car of the Year" and "Design".
To be eligible for the overall World Car award, the candidates must become available for sale on at least two continents during the period beginning January 1, 2016 and ending May 31, 2017.
"It's spacious, too, and - something I haven't mentioned yet, but perhaps the most important point of all - it looks fantastic".
The twin accolades have bolstered Jaguar's faith in their new age SUVs that have spawned from the DNA of their performance machines. Offered in Pure, Prestige, R-Sport and First Edition, the F-Pace is brought to India as completely Built Unit (CBU).
The Mercedes E-Class took the 2017 World Luxury Car title while the BMW i3 (94Ah) was declared the inaugural victor of the World Urban Car award. In the luxury category, the Mercedes Benz E Class captured top honors, besting the BMW 5 Series and Volvo S90/V90. "Winning these two awards endorses the talent and great work of our teams that have delivered the world's most practical sports auto and Jaguar's fastest selling vehicle". To win the pair of trophies, the F-PACE saw off the competition in a vote of 75 influential motoring journalists from 24 countries.
Over the past year we've run umpteen stories about the new Jaguar F-Pace driving Jaguar's sales to finally compete with Land Rover's success under Tata, and that shows n o sign of abating. Topping the list is Jaguar F-Pace. WWCOTY is the only auto award voted for entirely by women.
