Man U still `fighting` for top-four PL finish, insists Mourinho

A 3-0 win for Manchester United at the Stadium of Light has left Sunderland 10 points off safety at the bottom of the English Premier League.

Sunday's victory left United only four points short of the Champions League places with eight games to go and a game in hand over Manchester City in fourth.

Midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan and substitute Marcus Rashford scored the other goals as United boosted their Champions League prospects and nudged 10-man Sunderland closer to relegation.

But United were soon back on top as Lingard again brought out a stop from Pickford with a low drive that the Sunderland keeper managed to tip round the post. I thought about a half time change but I thought was too harsh for him, I wanted him to play a little bit more. We are 20 players.

United were without goalkeeper David de Gea due to a minor hip injury, with Sergio Romero deputising, but Mourinho expects the Spaniard to be fit for the visit of leaders Chelsea next Sunday. "Because of course you can't move the same as five, ten or 15 years ago", said Ibrahimovic, who believed he was "getting better and better". "I was born old and will die young".

"You do not waste so much energy on things you do not really need".

Manchester United will have a great future if the players continue to take on board Jose Mourinho's criticism, defender Eric Bailly has told the official Premier League website.

"Jose Mourinho is very good at man management", he said.

It resumes its campaign with a quarterfinal first leg in Belgium against Anderlecht on Thursday. "In this attractive weather the game was played at a more slow intensity".

When English full-back Luke Shaw was bought for £27 million by Manchester United from Southampton in 2014 there was much expectation about his potential - almost three years on and the 21-year-old is fighting to save his Old Trafford career.

"You could feel the negative feeling around the team".

"But the Europa League becomes fundamental for us, it's the only competition we can win now. We'll keep going until it's mathematically impossible to stay up".
