Rain washes out NASCAR race at Bristol, resume Monday at noon

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) - The moment practice ended at Bristol Motor Speedway, Kurt Busch climbed the steep banking of the concrete bullring. He checked the track temperature in several spots, then used his shoes to test the grip of the surface as he scuffed his way back down.

Much earlier in the day, five-time Bristol victor Kurt Busch encountered trouble as he lost the front end of his No. 41 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford on Lap 55 and hit the inside SAFER barrier. Although the VHT TrackBite applied to the track's lower groove is created to be water-proof and unaffected by rain, Kurt Busch, driver of the No. 42 Haas Automation/Monster Energy Ford Fusion, still has a trust issue with the product.

But, after running a chunk of practice on the bottom line, he went to work on the top and wondered why so few other drivers were willing to try to make it a two-lane track. The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series garage will open at 9 a.m.

Seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson won his second straight race Monday when he took the checkered flag in Monday's rain-postponed Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

"I think the track evolved really good", Harvick said. "You are going to rip around the corner", Larson said. We're supposed to be the best, so we'll have to figure it out.

"The track is changing faster than I can keep up with it. We have had a lot of them this year". It was just the second career win in Thunder Valley for Johnson, who considers it one of his most vexing tracks.

"I don't know if we had the vehicle to beat", Larson said. Larson's 180 laps were the most led in the event, but a cut tire followed by a commitment line violation mired the No. 42 in traffic.

When the race gets underway, Kyle Larson will start on the pole. I just thought maybe we had a tire rub for some reason, but I couldn't remember what might have caused that. It nearly bit him during Saturday morning's session when he spun and clipped the outside wall. Take a look at the format described below and let me know what you think. Like I said, our race cars have been extremely good to allow us to run up front like that.

"I thought we had the fastest vehicle, we just needed track position", Harvick said".

Houff made his NASCAR ARCA series debut at Daytona in February.

With Larson and the new young pretender to the throne, Chase Elliott, on the front row, it is becoming a familiar sight throughout 2017.

Larson won the opening stage and Hemric won the second stage.

Erik Jones won this race a year ago and was also in the top 5 the year prior.

Kyle Busch led both of Saturday's practice sessions.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Kyle Larson is the favorite in this race, as he is getting +225 odds to win. He lined up third on a restart with 34 laps remaining but faded due to a problem with his right rear tire and wound up seventh. Jones was second to Busch in single-lap speeds in second practice but posted the Best 10 Consecutive Lap Average run - 127.178mph.

The race had some offtrack excitement when Ross Chastain and Jeremy Clements had a confrontation on pit road during the rain stoppage. Somebody grabbed me by my shoulders and kind of pushed me. A softer tire provides the auto with more grip and, thus, speed. "The bottom was really where it was at for the short run". "This was a fun place for me".

But could the relationship with Penske and Fitzgerald Glider Kits give him another shot somewhere? I know we were two, three wide for the lead there a couple of times it seemed like. "I mean they say, 'Jump, ' I say 'How high?'"
