Peace Officers Memorial Day Today

While today may be a yearly observance, let us not forget the daily sacrifices our law enforcement officers make throughout the entire year.

"You are the thin blue line between civilization and chaos", Trump said.

"It is time to work with our cops, not against them, but to support them, not to obstruct, which were doing", he added without elaborating in what ways the nation's law enforcement is being restricted. "His wife, Kristen, and his 6-year-old son, Micah, who has my hat and is now with us", Trump said.

"As law enforcement officers, we put on our uniforms each day not knowing what dangers we may face", said Detective Michael Lamia, who was also recognized at the ceremony as Boca's 2016 Officer of the Year.

Earlier Monday in the Oval Office, Trump signed a proclamation to mark Peace Officers' Memorial Week and Police Week.

In Jacksonville on Monday, local police officials and members of the public paid tribute to local law enforcement officers who paid the ultimate price.

Trump said police officers are often subject to "unfair defamation and vilification and - even worse, hostility and violence". "I will say that and I will talk about that proudly", Trump said.

Fallen officers from across the country, including Fargo Police Office Jason Moszer, are being honored during 2017 National Police Week activities in our nation's capital.

Montana Gov. Steve Bullock ordered that flags be flown half staff Monday in honor of Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day. The numbers I see that come out of our Crimes Against Peace Officers Unit are always staggering because, to me, they are more than just another filed case or sentencing.

The president said he has witnessed, as a New Yorker, how the NYPD keeps communities safe.

Officers from all over Minnesota have traveled to the State Police Memorial, where they stand in silent vigil for 30-minute shifts. "And you did, big league".

"We're glad to have the support of the community", Smith County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Robert Carlson said. They died keeping us safe. She has worked closely with law enforcement throughout her career, and was pleased to hear Trump's pledge to increase respect for law enforcement.
