Nicky Hayden condition 'remains extremely critical'

Hayden, nicknamed "The Kentucky Kid", raced for Honda in MotoGP team from 2003 to 2015, before moving to the Superbike World Championship for the 2016 season.

Nicky Hayden has been placed in a medically induced coma following a bicycle crash on Wednesday.

World Superbike Championship promoters Dorna confirmed that Hayden faced possible surgery.

Hayden was on a bicycle run with his friends near Rimini when a vehicle collided with his bicycle.

Honda said he was taken initially by ambulance to a hospital near the coastal resort of Rimini before then being transferred to Cesena.

"Members of Nicky's team and his fiancee are with him in the hospital".

A road auto collided with his bicycle, knocking Hayden off and smashing the windscreen of the vehicle in the process. He made one start in 2016, driving for Honda and Ducati.
