NY police chief shot, suspect barricaded in home

Anthony Bostick, 28, who shot Amthor in the left shoulder, was found dead in the Abbey Lane residence in Maybrook where police went in the morning for a report of a domestic dispute between Bostick and his girlfriend.

The police chief in the village of Maybrook in Orange County has been shot during a standoff with a suspect.

Authorities have confirmed that a man who shot a police chief during a standoff in Orange County fatally shot himself.

State Police Maj. Joseph Tripodo says the chief's injury isn't life-threatening.

The Associated Press reported Amthor was shot while responding to a domestic disturbance.

State police said in a statement that "a subject" is barricaded in a home.

Police from several agencies, including the City of Newburgh, Town of Newburgh, Town of Montgomery and Woodbury, are also present, as are at least two police dogs.

State police say troopers and a police negotiator are at the scene where the suspect is barricaded. "We have a shooting protocol anytime an officer discharges their weapon", a police official said. Officers are wearing helmets and vests, and some are carrying assault rifles.
