What James Comey Didn't Say in His Blockbuster Hearing …

At Thursday's testimony, Former FBI director James Comey accused Trump of spreading "lies, plain and simple" about him and the FBI in the aftermath of his abrupt firing.

Comey went on to say that Trump administration had told lies and defamed him and the Federal Bureau of Investigation after the president dismissed him on May 9.

Trump, said one person familiar with his thinking, felt good about the testimony, which proved him right in several cases and included the revelation that Comey had leaked information to reporters.

Comey told the House Intelligence Committee on March 20 that the FBI was investigating Moscow's role in the election, including possible collusion with Trump's campaign.

Only two people were in the room when Donald Trump allegedly asked James Comey for a pledge of loyalty, so no one else knows for sure what was said. Mr. Comey hurled no grenades, but landed an occasional punch, and when night fell Democratic dreams of impeaching the president had shrunk from no fire, no smoke, to not even an incriminating vapor.

Given the pains to which Comey went to write down his version of the meeting with Trump, not to mention Comey's immediate conversations with colleagues and the utter plausibility of his account, Trump's denials seem thoroughly unconvincing to me. And in testimony that exposed deep distrust between the president and the veteran lawman, Comey described intense discomfort about their one-on-one conversations, saying he decided he immediately needed to document the discussions in memos. "I think they convinced him there was no reason for him to say anything, to not get bogged down in the swamp".

"It is overwhelmingly clear that there have been and continue to be those in government who are actively attempting to undermine this administration with selective and illegal leaks of classified information and privileged communications", Trump's attorney Marc Kasowitz said yesterday.

Pro-Trump Republicans who were pleased by Comey some seven months ago may now concur with the president's assessment of Comey as a "showboat". I'm not going to say I want you to pledge allegiance.

"I have no idea" if a taping system exists, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Thursday.

During the press conference at the White House on Friday, Mr Trump would not confirm whether he had recordings of his conversations with Mr Comey, but said that the press would know shortly.

A senior Russian lawmaker has dismissed the testimony of former FBI Director James Comey as insignificant.

Mr. Kasowitz also said Trump never demanded "I need loyalty, I expect loyalty" as Comey testified on Thursday.

Comey's testimony drew renewed attention to Sessions and his relationship with Russia's ambassador to the United States, Sergei Kislyak.

But he said that Trump's request at a February 14 Oval Office meeting for him to ease the probe of former national security advisor Michael Flynn sounded like an order.

Comey said that soon after he was sacked he leaked the information about his interaction with Trump hoping that such a move would prompt the appointment of a special counsel to investigate the Russsian links to the Trump campaign. Anyone involved in the firing of Comey - which Trump admitted in an NBC News interview was motivated, at least in part, by the Russian Federation investigation. Trump Jr. asked at one point.

"That concerned me because that language tracked how the campaign was talking about the FBI's work, and that's concerning", Comey said.

I've never wanted Trump to tweet so badly in my entire life.

Russian Federation has denied such interference.
