Whilst director Edgar Wright tweeted: "Farewell Adam West".
West's Caped Crusader, alongside his youthful ward, Robin (Burt Ward), battled the likes of the Joker, the Riddler and Catwoman, with an array of incredible gadgets in his seemingly inexhaustible utility belt, including Bat-shark repellent. I will forever miss him.
Television was different in those times and Adam West portrayed the detective Batman brilliantly.
From one Batman to another, Ben Affleck sent out a heartfelt message of gratitude Saturday to the late Adam West.
The cycles of marketing, merchandising, and journalistic/academic fascination that we take for granted now - with, say, Wonder Woman as a prominent example - hit a crucial evolutionary stage when Adam West was playing Batman.
West made appearances and public service announcements dressed as Batman.
It was a surreal experience to learn of Adam West's death while at the Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Illinois.
Had this series been picked up and become successful, it might've kept Shatner and West from ever taking on their iconic roles - and we might have ended up with Lyle Waggoner as Batman and who knows on the bridge of the Enterprise.
He voiced Quahog's eccentric Mayor Adam West, described by series creator Seth MacFarlane as an "alternate universe", satirised version of the actor.
"I knew after 20 pages it was the kind of thing, the kind of comedy, I wanted to do", he said.
Newmar, who played Catwoman in "Batman" for two seasons, said: "Stellar, exemplar, a king to the end".
The Batman character "has to be mature enough to have a ward, he's a mentor or he has adopted a son, so to speak", West once said. That sea change feeds directly into Frank Miller's psychologically grimy execution seen in Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One.
"Batman" was the role he would remain associated with throughout his life.
Various supporting roles in movies and TV followed - including a part in the Three Stooges movie "The Outlaws Is Coming".
And he also played Simon Trent, the Grey Ghost, in Batman: The Animated Series.
He died peacefully surrounded by his family and is survived by his wife Marcelle, six children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Loved the show as a kid, still love the show now. POW!
