Houstonian Zack Barth One of The Injured At Virginia Ball Field Shooting

The congressional staffer shot in the leg by an assault rifle-wielding gunman Wednesday at a baseball practice session for Republican lawmakers was in the outfield of the Alexandria, Virginia, baseball diamond when he heard a loud pop.

Leslie Hagar Small, who worked on the Jeb Bush presidential campaign, said on Twitter today that Zack Barth was one of their best interns and he would stay and work until late into the evening. "We saw examples of why all Americans should be grateful every day for law enforcement officers around this country".

"I was running for my life, got into the dugout, and I was bleeding pretty badly, but I was really just trying to keep my head down, keep everybody's heads down and prevent anything else from happening", Barth said.

Williams wasn't shot but injured his ankle diving into the dugout for cover, he said.

At least one of those bullets apparently struck Barth in the leg while he was retrieving balls in the outfield, Williams recounted Wednesday afternoon at a news conference.

Zach Barth, a legislative correspondent for Williams, was shot in the leg and he said his "fight or flight" instincts kicked in, allowing him to run to safety.

"Capitol Police came and they took a step forward and not a step back", Williams said.

While the incident clearly shook Williams, his message was a positive one.

The Congressional Baseball Game, which pits Senate and House party members against each other in friendly competition, is a national tradition since 1909 and the most recent game was scheduled for Thursday, June 15, at Nationals Park. He now lives in D.C.

Williams, who played baseball at TCU and professionally in the Atlanta Braves organization, has helped coach the Republican team in the annual charity game with Democrats since 2013. He has previously written about film for Bloody Disgusting, We Got This Covered, What Culture, and The Celebrity Cafe. "They have got me going to where I will be okay where I can move around at the game and then I will go home tomorrow night and get it fixed".

A white Texas police officer says he regrets asking a mother why she didn't teach her son not to litter during the December arrest of the black woman and her two teenage daughters.

'They saved all of us out there, ' he said, 'There is no question about it'. Griner was shot in the ankle and is hospitalized in good condition. "The heroes are the Capitol Hill police, the Alexandria police and Steve Scalise's security detail". Wenstrup said they assessed his injuries and used a belt as a tourniquet to stem the blood flow.

But Brady added another chilling piece of luck: The team's pitchers skipped Wednesday's practice to avoid wearing out or injuring their arms ahead of Thursday night's big game.
