Pence reportedly hires his own outside lawyer for Russian Federation questions

President Donald Trump last month named Marc Kasowitz, a New York-based trial lawyer, as his private attorney for the Russian Federation investigation.

"The Vice President is focused entirely on his duties and promoting the President's agenda and looks forward to a swift conclusion of this matter", Agen said.

Cullen will not be paid with taxpayer money, an aide said. The law firm referred questions back to the vice president's office.

The vice president's decision to enlist outside legal counsel marks the most recent in a flurry of moves by the Trump administration to combat investigations into Russian meddling with the election.

Pence has not come under any particular scrutiny over the course of the Department of Justice Russia investigation.

Pence is expected to meet with government and business leaders.

An aide tells NPR the decision to hire an outside lawyer has been under consideration for weeks, and Pence chose to go forward with it earlier this week.

Trump ultimately fired Flynn for misleading the vice president.

The Secret Service is also at the campus.

The president has come under further scrutiny for his decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, a decision Trump later seemed to imply was related, in part, to the Russian Federation probe that Comey was then overseeing.

Pence's choice for outside counsel contrasts with the president's.
