Indiana's unemployment rate declines to 3.2 percent in May

That holds Oklahoma's rate steady for a third consecutive month, as the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment percentages for April and March also were 4.3 percent.
The office of Labor and Workforce Development said Thursday that unemployment rose to 4.2 percent in May, from 3.9 percent in April. This makes Alaska the state with the highest rate of unemployment, in the country.
Maryland gained jobs in mining, logging and construction, trade, transportation and utilities, retail, and professional and business services.
Maryland's unemployment rate improved slightly last month, but the state lost jobs, signaling a potential shift in employers' willingness to hire.
The statewide unadjusted unemployment rate fell to 4.7% from 4.8%.
Sonoma County had the fifth-lowest jobless rate in the state, tying with San Luis Obispo.
"Job growth has been quite robust over the first five months of the year, averaging 2.5 percent", said Keith R. Phillips, Dallas Fed assistant vice president and senior economist, in a statement.
May saw a drop in the unemployment rate in Maryland while it stayed the same in Virginia. For comparison, Del Norte County ranked 40th at 5.7 percent, Mendocino County ranked 15th at 3.8 percent and Trinity County ranked 37th at 5.3 percent in May 2017, according to the report. The strong areas of employment growth across the region continues to be restaurants and entertainment, with construction remaining strong.
The national unemployment rate for May was 4.3 percent, down from 4.4 percent in April and from 4.7 percent in May 2016.
Alabama Department of Labor Secretary Fitzgerald Washington said the state added 13,100 jobs in May, with almost half of those coming in the leisure and hospitality sector.
