Special counsel Mueller investigating Trump for obstruction of justice

One person who has worked with Trump in the past declared there was "no chance" he had actually taped his conversations with Comey.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer didn't have any updates on Monday about when that answer may be coming.

"If the president had tapes that clearly contradicted Director Comey, I am shocked that they're not public right now", Sen. During his testimony last week in front of the Senate intelligence committee, Comey said that message prompted him to release notes he kept about his meeting with the president in which the former FBI chief said he felt pressured to drop an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Trump first raised the spectre of a White House recording system last month, in a tweet that he dashed off three days after firing Comey.

Lawmakers are urging President Trump to come clean about whether he has tapes of private conversations with fired FBI Director James Comey.

After Trump again intimated last week that he could have recorded his controversial discussions with fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, it remained unclear if that claim was true.

The Secret Service, which protects the president and his family, maintained a secret taping system for the White House in the eras of John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon.

It remains possible that someone other than the Secret Service could have made a recording.

Since his ominous tweet, Trump has repeatedly refused to confirm or deny whether those tapes exist.

More recently, however, Trump seems to have had a habit of making a different play - of bluffing that he has tapes that will supposedly prove him right in some dispute or another, in an effort to get his opponent to back down.

"I don't think it's for me to say whether the conversation I had with the president was an effort to obstruct", Comey said.

Comey said he believed Mueller would look into Trump for obstruction of justice. In both cases, the reporters say, Trump curiously failed to produce the tape.

"Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"

If you aren't a fan of Trump, your perception of time is probably even worse than that of people who like the president. I'll tell you about it over a very short period of time.
