McEnroe: Williams would be ranked 'like 700' on men's tour

"If she played the men's circuit she'd be like 700 in the world", McEnroe told NPR in response to a question about why he doesn't call Serena the best player, period.

"Well because if she was in, if she played the men's circuit she'd be like 700 in the world", McEnroe said.

"I think I can still play and I think I could still - I mean my kids don't think I can beat her anymore".

The former tennis bad boy added that he thought Williams could beat some male players.

At 33, Williams became the oldest woman to win a Grand Slam title, surpassing by 26 days Martina Navratilova and her Wimbledon title in 1990. I love to play women's tennis.

While some would regard her as the greatest of all time regardless of gender, McEnroe however, believes it is very important to make the distinction.

"I just haven't seen it in any other sport, and I haven't seen it in tennis", McEnroe said.

Sven-time Grand-Slam champion John McEnroe said Serena Williams has earned a lot in her professional career. They think I probably lose to Serena.

McEnroe, who has praised Williams in the past, made sexist remarks when quizzed why he refers to Williams as the best "female" player and not just the best player in the world.

Williams is set to be out of action for the rest of the year as she is less than two months away from giving birth. The 23-time Grand Slam winning American tennis player is still hungry for more titles. "I only want to play girls, because I don't want to be embarrassed". And during the questioning, Serena Williams came up and McEnroe had quite the hot take on the superstar.

In April, Serena revealed the news of her first pregnancy on Snapchat, posting a photo of herself showing off her baby bump at 20 weeks.
