Evacuations underway as wildfire breaks out near Breckenridge, Colorado

Meanwhile in southeast Wyoming, a wildfire forced the evacuation of a campground and 25 cabins in the area of Keystone about 10 miles (16 kilometers) north of the Colorado line.

Officials said about 450 homes outside the town of Breckenridge, Colo., remain under mandatory evacuation orders as firefighters work to stamp out a wildfire in the area.

The Peak 2 fire on Wednesday afternoon.

The Peak 7 neighborhood, which saw more than 460 residences evacuated Wednesday, are likely to remain under evacuation orders through Thursday, authorities said.

The fire has not burned any structures and died down as temperatures cooled Wednesday night.

Officials say a wind shift helped them keep the fire from burning toward Breckenridge. There is another meeting for residents at Summit Middle School at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The American Red Cross has also opened an evacuation center in the town of Frisco for residents affected by the fire. Several dozen evacuees reported to the shelter Wednesdy evening.

"Air resources have been working the fire, as well as a load of smokejumpers and a hotshot crew", Inciweb said. Local fire agencies include: Red, White & Blue Fire; Lake Dillon Fire; Copper Mountain Fire; Leadville Fire Department; Vail Fire Department; Kremmling Fire; North-West Fire; Grand Lake Fire; Town of Breckenridge; Summit County Sheriff's Office.

Smoke jumping teams were en route to the fire.

If wildfire smoke causes visibility to be less than five miles in your neighborhood, smoke levels are unhealthy.
