In phone call, Xi urges Trump to honor USA pledges

As he flew to Poland on Air Force One, Trump spoke by phone about the North Korean threat with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, emphasizing the need for countries to implement U.N. Security Council resolutions.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in a statement confirmed North Korea's test and characterized it as a "new escalation of the threat" to the United States and its allies.

Already, a wide array of US and worldwide sanctions target North Korean entities and officials, making it illegal for Americans to do business with them. The word "rapidly" indicates that the USA is running out of time as North Korea doggedly pursues its quest for a credible nuclear deterrent against its archenemy, the US.
Trump, in recent days, appears to have concluded that his early efforts to enlist China's cooperation on North Korea haven't paid off.
"It was not clear where Mr. Trump got his 40 percent figure", Jane Perle wrote in a piece on China and North Korea.
In another effort to prove Trump is incompetent, The New York Times corrected Trump over a statistic he used in his tweet about Chinese trade with North Korea.
A White House announcement did not say what Trump would discuss with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The US$1.4 billion arms deal sparked condemnation at the diplomatic level and claims of violation of the Xi-Trump consensus.
"Xi Jinping emphasized that, since my meeting with the president at Mar-a-Lago, China-U.S. relations have achieved important outcomes", state broadcaster China Central Television reported, referring to Xi's meeting with Trump in Florida in April, according to The Associated Press.
US sanctions against a Chinese bank over dealings with North Korea and the sailing of a USA destroyer close to a Chinese-claimed island in the South China Sea. That's especially true after Trump broke with decades of protocol against interactions with Taiwanese leaders in December and accepted a phone call with the island's president.
On June 12, in a testimony to the House Armed Services Committee, secretary of defence James Mattis identified North Korea as "the most urgent and risky threat to (international) peace and security".
Emergence of an openly belligerent nuclear North Korea capable of striking the U.S. mainland would be totally unacceptable to the Trump administration as has been made clear repeatedly by President Trump himself.
Abe praised Trump for the recent US sanctions on the small Bank of Dandong over its alleged support for North Korea's nuclear program, according to Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga.
In fact, all possible options before the USA are bad.
Many took these moves as evidence of the USA pursuing a harder line on the Asian superpower, likely caused by mounting frustration over a perceived lack of action by Beijing to contain North Korea.
In his initial response to the launch on Monday evening, Trump urged China on Twitter to "put a heavy move on North Korea and end this nonsense once and for all!"
The lukewarm attempts by China to pressure North Korea reveal a clever practice of the art of deception by the Chinese leadership.
