The Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a UP resident man, allegedly involved with the terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba.
Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday detained the mother and sister-in-law of Sandeep Sharma, alleged to be a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative, who was arrested from Jammu earlier in the day. IGP Munir Khan said, "Sandeep Sharma, son of Ram Sharma from UP was apprehended from Muzaffarnagar". He was also reportedly involved in bank loot cases.
Addressing a press conference here, IG Kashmir Muneer Khan said the duo was involved in number of militancy and crime-related incidents in south Kashmir.
While working in Punjab, he came in contact with one Shahid Ahmad, a resident of Kulgam, who was also working in Punjab.
On July 1, Bashir Lashkari, who was behind the killing, was killed after a major shootout in Anantnag.
"Sharma was a part of Lashkar module and has been apprehended by the J&K Police".
Khan told that Sandeep had come to Kashmir for the first time in 2012.
Kumar was also involved in looting banks and other terrorist activities in the south Kashmir region.
ADG (Law and Order) Anand Kumar said there was no criminal record of Sandeep. In these crimes, they worked in conjunction with LET in South Kashmir.
He was even arrested in connection with a criminal case, but was later released on bail.
In another incident on June 3, Sharma and a few other militants attacked an Army convoy at Lower Munda Qazigund near Hillar village. He was a close associate of Bashir Lashkari.
Sharma used his old acquaintances and came in touch with a family at Brinty Dialgam. During the encounter, he was rescued alongwith other members of the family by the Police.
"At present investigation is in progress". On the directions of LeT the subject along with his associates received LeT terrorists and dropped them at different sites for the terror action in South Kashmir.
He said that initial investigations have revealed the role of the two terrorists in terror activities being carried out by the LeT.
ANI further added that Sharma also concealed weapons looted from police guards in a vehicle and shifted them to different locations on the directions of LeT.
