After the club's poor finish last season and no Champions League play this year, it appears that the Mexican worldwide and Bayer Leverkusen mutually thought it was time to part ways.
The 28-year-old put pen to paper on a five-year deal on Saturday to become West Ham's club-record signing following on from the arrivals of Pablo Zabaleta and Joe Hart.
Hart and his former Manchester City team-mate are already in training with Slaven Bilic's squad, while Mexico global Hernandez is expected to undergo a medical on Monday to conclude a £13m move from Bayer Leverkusen.
The reported fee for for Arnautovic is $32.5 million.
Most importantly, Hernandez will be given the chance to make the starting spot his own at West Ham.
West Ham United have been very active in the transfer window this summer.
The two leading contenders for his signature were named as London rivals West Ham and Tottenham, though Chelsea were also rumoured to be keeping tabs on the situation.
