IT raids on Minister DK Shivakumar's residences; Eagleton Golf Resort

Responding to Opposition's allegations, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, "No search has taken place in the resort as such and no MLA was searched, only one particular Karnataka minister was searched".

More raids are underway at various locations connected with Karnataka Minister for Energy D K Shivakumar. Sources said that each room of the resort where the Gujarat legislators are presently holed up is being searched apart from an audit of bills for their stay, to track down the money trail.

However, the Minister, who had "gone and parked himself" at the resort, was picked up from there for questioning, he said as Congress members vociferously raised the issue in both the Houses.

The Income Tax joint commissioner said the searches were in continuation of an investigation going on for considerable time. "After using state machinery & every other agency, these I-T raids show their utter desperation & frustration".

The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear a plea moved by the Gujarat Congress challenging the decision to use NOTA option in tRajya Sabha polls in the state.

"This minister was coordinating the stay of the Gujarat MLAs, that is why it is a targeted timing", he said in the Rajya Sabha.

Congress has also accused the incumbent Gujarat government of trying to lure 22 Congress lawmakers by offering Rs 15 crores and asking them to cross vote during the polls.

The Congress rushed the lawmakers to Bengaluru late on Friday night after six lawmakers quit the party in Gujarat ahead of the Rajya Sabha election.

Almost 39 premises owned by Shivakumar and his family were being searched by a team of about 120 IT officials along with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel across the country, the official said.

They (income tax officials) had to bring him to his house to check certain documents seized during the searches, Jaitley said.

The raids commenced at 7 am today at all the places simultaneously.
