3 wounded in shooting at popular park in San Francisco, police say

A speeding getaway auto is the last anyone saw of a group of masked men fleeing a San Francisco park, where a volley of gunshots wounded three people and sent many others, including children, into a panic running for cover.

San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) confirmed on Twitter that there were three victims and all were sent to hospital.

Two adult men and a male minor were shot around 3pm and taken to hospital, as authorities report one of the adults is in critical condition.

Witnesses saw several people speeding away from the park in a auto, a police spokeswoman told SFGate. "Two people got hit behind me and luckily I only had a fragment stick to my trousers, so", said Hatter, witness.

Dolores Park turned into a chaotic scene when an unknown suspect fired shots into the crowd gathered at the popular tourist destination on Thursday evening.

The victim in the shooting near Haight and Stanyan streets by Golden Gate Park suffered wounds that are not believed to be life-threatening, said police spokesman Officer Robert Rueca. He says that in a situation like these I would have normally handle it, but I was also sure that I was going to lose my life that time.

Antonia Juhasz, who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 20 years, was reading a book on a bench when she heard gunshots and at first thought they might be firecrackers.

Juhasz claims to have seen two of the victims, one man, who appeared to be bleeding from his chest and another who was being helped by paramedics.

Two people directly behind Hatter were struck by bullets, one in the head and one in the leg, he said.

The shooter from the crime scene disappeared, the police are after him.
