Pakistan poll panel asks PML-N to appoint new party leader

The Punjab law minister said that Nawaz Sharif lived in hearts of workers and this spirit to be remembered for decades.

The Prime Minister Office in a statement said Abbasi thanked the president and said that terrorism is a common threat for both the countries and both countries need to fight it together.

"I am going to my home".

Sharif's "caravan" took 12 hours to travel the 20 kilometers from Islamabad to Rawalpindi due to big crowds estimated as large as 30,000 that were walking and driving alongside his auto.

Kulsoom Nawaz on late Thursday signed nomination papers as PML-N has chose to field former first lady for by-poll in NA-120 Lahore-III, fell vacant after disqualification of former PM Nawaz Sharif.

"I don't want reinstatement for myself".

Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf said that Sharif failed to bring out people and the rally was already a "flop show". Sharif began two days of rallies aimed at demonstrating his political strength, making stops from the capital Islamabad to his hometown of Lahore, ignoring security threats and drawing thousands of supporters.

The former premier was earlier scheduled to travel to Lahore from Islamabad via the famous Grand Trunk Road on Sunday, but the rally was postponed to Wednesday. Sharif's party initially wanted Abbasi to serve as an interim premier for 45 days until Sharif's younger brother, Shahbaz Sharif, the chief minister of Punjab, secures a national assembly seat in a by-election.

He held a meeting with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, cabinet ministers and senior party leaders before starting the 370-km-long journey. "Why I was removed?"

Sharif insisted that a larger panel in the court should hear his review petition. "I will keep guiding my party", he said.

Canada-based cleric of Pakistani-origin Tahir-ul-Qadri returned to Lahore ahead of the rally.

Sharif resigned on July 28, shortly after the Supreme Court disqualified him from office following an investigation that concluded that his family could not account for what the court said was vast wealth in offshore companies.

It is being reported that the caravan will now stay at Jehlum, where Nawaz Sharif would address the public second time.
