6 coaches of Utkal express derail, 5 dead, 35 injured

At least five persons were killed while several others were injured as Six coaches of Puri-Haridwar-Kalinga Utkal Express on Saturday evening derailed in Muzaffarnagar's Khatauli area. There has been no official confirmation and the reason behind the accident is still not clear. Train movement on Ambala- Meerut- Saharanpur rail route has been stopped.

The numbers are: 0131-2436918, 0131-2436103 and 0131- 2436564. "Have instructed senior officers to reach site immediately and ensure speedy rescue and relief operations". "I empathise with the family of the injured and killed", the Chief Minister said.

According to Dharmendra Pradhan-Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Prime Minister Modi is monitoring the situation and has spoken to Suresh Prabhu and UP CM Yogi Adityanath.

Anand Kumar, ADG Law & Order said more than 50 injured in the accident.

When asked by a reporter whether there was any terror angle in the accident, state DGP Sulkhan Singh said so far there was no such information, but "UP ATS will investigate into the causes of the accident".

Railways announced ex gratia of Rs 3.5 Lakh for those who lost their lives and Rs.50 thousand for seriously injured.

"Two of the ministers of the Uttar Pradesh Government, Satish Mahana and Suresh Kumar Rana have been sent to the accident spot". The Union Railway Minister ordered an inquiry into the matter and said that any lapse would be dealt with strictly.

Meanwhile, officials of the local administration have reached the site to coordinate rescue and relief works.

The Minister said, he has instructed Railway Board Chairman and Member Traffic to oversee rescue and relief operations.
