The AP Top 25 Poll

Florida State 4. Southern California 5.

Ohio State checked in at No. 2 with three first-place votes.

No. 12 Auburn will open the season against Georgia Southern on September 2 at 6:30 p.m. central time at Jordan-Hare Stadium. All of those teams deserve to be ranked that high, but it would certainly be cool to see K-State football climb up the rankings and make it into the top five this season.

Being able to finish anywhere in the Associated Press poll on the other hand has proved elusive for the Bulldogs the last two seasons. The Clemson Tigers, who beat Alabama in last year's title game behind since-departed star quarterback Deshaun Watson, will open the campaign ranked fifth nationally.

OU opens the 2017 season by hosting UTEP on September 2 at 2:30 p.m. CT at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The Crimson Tide secured 52 first-place votes from the 59 media members that voted in the poll. The Gators will face No. 11 MI at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Florida 18. Miami 19. Florida State did it 11 seasons in a row (1990-2000). The Hurricanes open at home against Bethune-Cookman and will travel to Tallahassee two weeks later for their Atlantic Coast Conference opener against the Seminoles. The Bulldogs, of course, won the national championship that season.

Georgia enters the preseason poll at No. 15, the 16th consecutive season the Bulldogs have been ranked in the preseason poll (second-longest active streak in the SEC behind LSU).

Fellow Big 12ers Kansas State (No. 20), West Virginia (No. 22) and Texas (No. 23) made the cut as well.
