Dwayne Johnson dethroned as top-paid actor; Mark Wahlberg captures 2017 crown

The American 46-year-old, who led a career as a rapper under the name "Marky Mark" before launching in the cinema, has risen to the top of the standings thanks to films like "Transformers: The Last Knight" or "Very Bad Dads 2". He uproots last year's victor, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who made $65 million this year for second place. It's not until you reach the 14th spot (Ryan Gosling with $29 million), though, that the paycheques even begin to resemble Stone's.

The top-10 men continue to earn more than female stars with men earning $488.5 million compared with just $172.5 million earned by female leads.

While the lists suffer from a serious lack of diversity, they also point out how much more men are making in Hollywood.

Forbes recently released the highest earning female actors list, with Emma Stone taking first place with earnings of $26m.

The list of the highest actors is calculated by combining the earnings based on data from Nielsen, ComScore, Box Office Mojo, and IMDB.

Lawrence's 18 million pounds fell short of her earnings in previous years, when she won an Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook and earned 35 million pounds.

Stone recently told Out Magazine that throughout her career, she's needed her male co-stars to take pay cuts for there to be parity.

Last December, Depp was named as the most overpaid actor for the second year running, as films such as Mortdecai and Alice Through The Looking Glass bombed at the box office. Coming in at No. 3 on the list is Vin Diesel ($54.5 million), followed by Adam Sandler ($50.5 million) and Jackie Chan ($49 million). Clearly, 2017 has been a good year for the world's biggest actors, and we're really not that surprised.
