Search operation begins in JK's Baramulla, two terrorists believed to be trapped

In Sopore township of Baramulla district, two militants were killed today in an encounter with the security forces. Acting on a tip-off, the forces were cordoning off the area when the militants opened fire at them.

"Two terrorists were killed in the encounter who were later identified as Pervaiz Ahmad Wani resident of Galoora Handwara, Divisional Commander of HM and Naeem Ahmad Najar son of Ghulam Hassan Najar resident of Shelpora Brath, Sopore". Reports said two AK-47 rifles and one Insas rifle including one pistol have been recovered.

The entire area was sealed and residents were directed to remain indoors.

He said Pervaiz was involved in the serial blasts on mobile towers in 2015, besides series of civilian and police killings and attacks on security forces.

On Sunday, the armed forces gunned down a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist, involved in the killing of Lt Umar Fayaz in May, in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.

Wani was involved in serial blasts that targeted mobile towers in the area in 2015, the killing of two police personnel in Handwara market in 2013 and an attack on the Langate police post a year ago, he said. "He was involved in attack on Police Post Langate in 2016, attack on Army in Handwara and attack on SBI Sopore", said a police spokesman. Earlier also Pakistan has violated ceasefire in the Krishna Ghati sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
