Pennsylvania troops join Harvey relief efforts in Texas

Houston Executive Airport is one of three hubs the Texas Army National Guard is operating from.

The storm caused damage throughout the region, flooding homes and leaving at least 30 dead. Two twin-engine CH-47 Chinook helicopters from the Nebraska National Guard have already spent the past few days hauling relief crews and thousands of pounds of supplies around Texas.

"We were an island like everyone else", said Tom Branch, coordinator for Liberty County's Office of Emergency Management.

The state has an agreement in place with Louisiana, Texas and several other surrounding states to offer Guard support in disaster scenarios.

"We want to be sure to say a prayer for their families and thank businesses for allowing their employees to leave and do this job", Phillips said. Last week, six airmen from the Guard's 193rd Special Operations Wing in Middletown who were the first group sent to assist with communications efforts in Texas.

On Saturday, 500 soldiers left Norman and are heading to help Hurricane Harvey victims.

"A lot of devastation throughout the area", said Macias.

Nebraska Task Force 1, based in Lincoln, has been on the scene as well and has helped with more than 1,500 rescues.

"We're just trying to bring all the supplies and equipment that these guys need to set up operations", Bundy said.
