"Apparently, they were afraid, and by killing Gauri Lankesh, they want to spread fear in journalist community that if you do this, one of you will be killed".
Slain journalist Gauri Lankesh was laid to rest on Wednesday with full state honours here in Chamarajpet.
"Two persons had written something against Gauri on Facebook and the police is investigating it", the Chief Minister said.
Senior Indian journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead on Tuesday in the southern city of Bengaluru by unidentified assailants, police said.
According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, there have been no convictions in any of the 27 cases of journalists murdered for their work in India since 1992.
Earlier in the day, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had hinted at the saffron party's involvement in her killing. Two men on a motorcycle shot five times at Pansare and his wife from close range outside their house.
Editor of a Kannada newspaper in Bangalore, Gauri Lankesh was an expressive thinker who frequently raised her voice against the unjust of Hindu extremism and superstition. Top police officer R.K. Dutta said he had met Lankesh recently, but that she did not mention any threat to her life.
Gauri's family has asked the for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter, while the Karnataka Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, has directed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the matter. "The Editors Guild of India demands that the Karnataka Government acts with alacrity to bring the culprits to justice apart from instituting a judicial probe into the killing", a statement issued by Editors Guild of India said.
Her murder sent shock waves through the media, with many slamming it as an attempt to silence voices of dissent.
The attackers fired at least seven rounds, of which three hit her in the head and chest while four struck the front wall of the house, police said.
To honour the journalist, state funeral and a gun salute was given to Gauri Lankesh as hundreds of people bid adieu to the activist.
