No floor test till September 20 in TN, orders Madras HC

The PIL also sought to restrain Chief Minister "Edappadi" K Palaniswami from taking any major/policy decision pending disposal of the writ petition.

Around 19 rebel MLAs withdrew their support from E Palaniswami government demanding floor test from the Governor. The court was hearing a plea by ousted All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader TTV Dinakaran's faction, news agency ANI reported.

One of the 19 MLAs, S T K Jakkaiyan had since switched to Palaniswami's camp and he had also reportedly appeared before Dhanapal and given his explanation. Senior ministers say that the hidden agenda of TTV-DMK combine would not succeed and the government would embark on a mission to gain strength by way of numbers. The RK Nagar seat is vacant following the death of then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa previous year. If someone moves a no confidence motion now, we will support them. As for the demand of the opposition parties for a floor test, "We have already shown majority in floor test [in February this year]", he maintained. "They want elections to happen and so they moved the court (for floor test)", he said.

The resolution further said that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, E. Palanisamy and his deputy, O. Panneerselvam, shall retrieve the party and its symbol.

The court asked the government counsel whether action was being contemplated by the Speaker against the 19 legislators belonging to the Dinakaran group who have revolted against the Chief Minister. "There is no direct or indirect alliance with that party", he asserted. "To protect our party, I will go to any extent", he said, adding that his faction has 21 MLAs on its side. "He is working on destabilizing the government installed by Amma (Jayalalithaa), by aligning with her opponents", said Munusamy, nominated by the general council to be deputy coordinator of the steering committee.

The TTV Dhinakaran faction also met the officials from the Election Commission (EC) and requested them to declare the recently-conducted general council meeting of the party null and void.

Earlier, the AIADMK, in its general council meeting, had passed a resolution, according to which jailed party general secretary V.K. Sasikala stood expelled from the party and the post of the temporary general secretary forfeited.

Palanisamy, who had "betrayed" AIADMK chief VK Sasikala, will not be "forgiven" by God, Dhinakaran said.
