Business Insider went to Apple's flagship London store on Regent Street this morning to see how much buzz the new iPhone was generating.
But some general retailers said they were sure the new iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus - which start at 5,888 yuan (US$892) in the mainland - will quickly become available at lower prices than their official launch prices when they finally start to hit other shelves across the country.
"I will buy two, one for my other daughter".
Many customers in the store were trying to the test the new models instead of committing to buy.
M1 has yet to reveal its iPhone X pricing.
Singtel, M1, and StarHub have released their pricing for the iPhone X, 8, and 8 Plus as they began accepting pre-orders on Friday afternoon for the latter handsets.
"We have cheaper phones available than Apple; no one wants to buy an iPhone 8 or a plus", said Wang Xiao, a saleswoman in one of the area's main malls.
And then there's scale: Demand for iPhones is exceptionally high each year - with over 200 million iPhones shipped - and Apple just isn't in a position where it can meet such numbers with the iPhone X straight away.
The new flagship iPhone X uses new components, such as an OLED display, that are more hard to manufacture, and Apple's high, rigorous standards are the reason why it will be another six weeks before it hits the market.
If you'd prefer to pick up the phones SIM-free, the iPhone 8 is priced £699 for the 64GB edition.
The price tags are an increase from last year's iPhone 7 and 7 Plus; in addition, in the United States the iPhone X 64GB model costs $999 while the 256GB model costs $1,149. We've picked out what we consider to be among the best deals for our iPhone 8 buyer's guide.
