Marilou Danley, who was met by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents when she arrived at Los Angeles airport overnight, claimed she knew nothing about any plans for a massacre. Lombardo added that he is confident they'll find out what set Paddock off and led him to kill at least 59 people at an outdoor concert on the Las Vegas Strip Sunday night.
Previously, this article contained information from that reporting.
Baristas told the paper they would wince when Paddock came in with Marilou Danley, because he regularly belittled and berated her in front of customers and staff. "She was sent away".
In her full statement, Ms Danley said she had been left "devastated by the deaths and injuries that have occurred".
Her statement follows claims Paddock was verbally abusive to her in public, which it did not refer to. "She was away so that she will be not there to interfere with what he's planning", one sister who lives in Queensland told Channel 7.
"A little more than two weeks ago Stephen told me he found a cheap ticket for me to the Philippines that he wanted me to take a trip home to see my family", she said in the statement, read out by her lawyer in Los Angeles this morning.
On Tuesday, authorities spoke with Marilou, who was in the Philippines.
Danley is a citizen of Australia and still has family there, Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said.
The attack, now the deadliest mass shooting in USA history, came from the 32nd floor balcony of a Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino hotel room.
What drove Paddock to shed so much blood will be at the top of many people's lists of questions. "Marilou Danley is my sister".
Eric Paddock said, "I mean this is an asteroid that fell out of the sky".
Ms Danley's sister, who lives in Queensland, described her as a good person and knew nothing about Paddock's plot.
People had been evacuated from the area around Mandalay Bay into the Westgate resort, she said.
The ATF said Paddock had 24 guns in his hotel room, and 12 of them had bump fire stocks, an attachment that helps a semi-automatic rifle mimic the shooting pace of a machine gun. She also asked for her privacy and for her family's privacy to be respected.
