Paddock opened fire on a music festival in Vegas on Sunday night, killing almost 60 people and wounding hundreds more. There don't appear to be any hotels near Fenway Park with views inside the stadium. The various media reports stated that Paddock had researched a possible attack in Boston with Fenway Park as a potential target.
Both rooms had a checkout date of August 6, corresponding with the final day of the music festival that drew tens of thousands of concertgoers to Grant Park alongside Lake Michigan. Paddock, 64, went as far as booking a room in a Chicago hotel but did not show up, the officials said.
One government official briefed on the matter said Paddock had been Googling Fenway Park and the Boston Center for the Arts. Malia Obama, daughter of former President Barack Obama, was among the thousands of spectators at the Lollapalooza festival. Few if any hotels have any view of stands.
Fenway Park gates for Game 3 of the ALDS between the Red Sox and Astros open at 12:38 p.m., exactly two hours before game time. As the NBC News story says, Fenway doesn't have high-rise hotels nearby.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said authorities will be stepping up security for concerts and sporting events following the shooting in Las Vegas.
