Red Sox manager Farrell tossed from Game 4 of ALDS

Verlander, who never even pitched in relief in college, replaced Charlie Morton in the fifth inning of ALDS Game 4 against the Red Sox at Fenway Park (GameTracker).

Farrell ran onto the field in the second inning Monday as Dustin Pedroia argued with plate umpire Mark Wegner about a called third strike with the bases loaded and the Red Sox trailing 2-1. He lasted only 1 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on four hits.

Price entered the game after another former Tiger, Doug Fister, struggled in his first start of the postseason. The scheduled starters should not change, but Red Sox manager John Farrell did say Chris Sale would be available out of the bullpen on Monday.

Bogaerts had been 0-for-14 through the first three games before the homer. If the Houston wins Game 4 and clinches the series, whenever it's played, losing a day between games would, of course, become inconsequential and render the prospect of Game 5 moot.

"We were in the post-season past year and unfortunately we couldn't do the job", added Ramirez, recalling that the Red Sox were swept in the first round last season.
