Chelsea show resolve but Watford victory papers over cracks

Chelsea came from 2-1 behind to record a 4-2 victory over Watford in Saturday afternoon's pulsating Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.

Watford wasted a number of chances to extend its advantage before substitute Michy Batshuayi headed in the equalizer. We deserved that goal.

But he acknowledged the defensive frailty that has resulted in the Premier League champions shipping seven goals in their last three matches and repeated his mantra that only through hard work could the side improve.

"After the first 25 minutes in the second half we played really good, we controlled the match".

Chelsea leapfrogged a point above Watford into fourth place.

"It depends if I want to see the positive aspect or the negative aspect", Conte said, smiling.

The short corner was pulled back to Pedro who curled a fantastic strike in off the top left hand corner of the goal frame.

The hosts took a controversial lead when they were awarded a corner despite the ball appearing to have come off the foot of Chelsea's Eden Hazard. Three then became four in the fifth minute of stoppage time when Batshuayi netted after a mistake from Britos. David Luiz attempted to head the ball out but it dropped down for Doucoure to fire home through a crowd of players.

Dipo added: "If Watford don't win, it's all down to Richarlison".

However, the second was just around the corner as a minute later Pereya was allowed the freedom of the Chelsea penalty area to slot home after Watford had cut the home side's defence to ribbons.

It could have been worse for Antonio Conte's side as Brazilian Richarlison missed two glorious chances for Watford either side of Pereyra's goal.

Chelsea right-back Azpilicueta pops up at the left-hand post to meet a peach of a cross from Willian, guiding a downward header past Heurelho Gomes at the 87th minutes to get the third goal.
