Manchester United open talks with Jose Mourinho over new contract

Manchester United defender Phil Jones is expected to start in his side's clash with Huddersfield on Saturday.

"Sometimes I feel being good defensively is a crime, but that is a way of getting results".

Of their remaining three games in the group stage, United will play two at home and could clinch a spot in the knockout stage for the first time since 2014 if they beat Benfica at Old Trafford in two weeks and CSKA Moscow fail to win in Switzerland against Basel.

"We are silly if we don't know what is expecting for us, unless it's a new player in the Premier League which we have only Victor, apart from that everybody knows the Premier League and knows what it means to play against newly promoted teams, is nothing new", he said.

Romelu Lukaku, the club's only out-and-out striker with Zlatan Ibrahimovic injured, made a dream start to his United career by scoring 11 goals in his first 10 games after arriving from Everton.

United held bitter rivals Liverpool to a 0-0 draw at Anfield and followed that up with a fortunate victory in a dour 1-0 victory over Benfica in midweek.

United are still without midfield trio of Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick due to injuries.

"Without any pressure, we knew the goal would arrive", Mourinho said after the Benfica game which was settled by a awful error by the Portuguese side's 18-year-old keeper.

"Now, how long you can get away with that, I don't know, but I think we're in a good place at the moment".

"But we had stats and information about set pieces, so we needed to make him uncomfortable".

United, though, was indebted to a terrible error by 18-year-old goalkeeper Mile Svilar, who misjudged Rashford's 64th-minute freekick, then caught it after it sailed over his head but carried the ball over the line as he stepped back.

"So at corners we tried to crowd him and put him under pressure, and from free kicks we knew he risks a lot".
