"In such times India can proudly say it is the nation that has tied a variety of cultures, traditions and faiths in one thread", Modi said before flagging off the "Run for Unity" here.
A large number of people, including sports personalities like Sardar Singh, Deepa Karmakar, Suresh Raina and Karnam Malleswari participated in the Run.
"What did Sardar Patel Ji do and who did he ban, these are issues that are in public domain".
The district administration and district police department organised "Run for Unity" to commemorate the 142nd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Tuesday, October 31.
A day after his tweets created havoc on social media, he clarified his stance by saying, "When I tweet abt Gandhiji, Sardar Patel and Nehru, I discuss history, not politics".
It is the result of the efforts made by Sardar Patel for the integration of India soon after independence that today every part of the country is celebrating.
Union Social Justice and empowerment minister Thawar Singh Ghelot administered the unity pledge to all and Union Health Minister JP Nadda, MPs Anurag Thakur, Virender Kashyap and state BJP incharge Mangal Pandey were also present on the occasion. The Ministry of Home Affairs had noted in their official press release announcing the observance of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas that the "occasion will provide an opportunity to reaffirm the inherent strength and resilience of our nation to withstand the actual and potential threats to the unity, integrity, and security of our country". Therefore it is important in a country like India to keep reiterating its mantra of unity and to constantly look for ways to strengthen the tradition of unity in diversity. The "Run for Unity" is a commendable initiative to showcase country's unity and integrity, said Hockey player Sardar Singh. The Congress quoted one of Patel's famous words.
