Sen. Rand Paul assaulted outside Kentucky home

A man accused of assaulting Republican U.S. Senator Rand Paul on Friday in the lawmaker's Bowling Green home has been charged with fourth-degree assault, Kentucky State Police said.

Republican Senator Rand Paul was also at the scene of the Congressional baseball shooting in June, when Bernie Sanders supporter James Hodgkinson opened fire, critically injuring Rep. Steve Scalise.

The newspaper reported the attack happened at Paul's Bowling Green home at 3:21 p.m. Friday.

"Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault". He was taken to the nearby Warren County Detention Center.

The release did not provide details of the assault or the nature of Paul's injury.

Rene Boucher, 59, is in the Warren County Regional Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond, according to online jail records available Saturday afternoon.

Neither Paul's office nor the Kentucky immediately responded to questions about the extent of any injuries Paul may have suffered or the circumstances of the incident. "Paul was seeking medical help for his injuries, the warrant said".
