Yesterday, Gigi Hadid announced she wouldn't be participating in Victoria's Secret Fashion Show this year in China and it's rumored it's because she couldn't secure a visa.
The model announced on Twitter on November 16 that she is "bummed" that she will not be attending the fashion show with the rest of the Angels.
In a tweet posted to her Twitter account on Thursday (16.11.17), she wrote: "I'm so bummed I won't be able to make it to China this year". "Love my VS family, and will be with all my girls in spirit!" In the video, Hadid appeared to be mocking Asian facial features as she held a cookie to her face.
"She was initially granted a visa to perform at the VS show in Shanghai, then Chinese officials changed their minds and yanked her visa", a source explained.
This comes after the model daughter of Yolanda Hadid had confirmed her Victoria's Secret gig for 2017 on social media back in August.
She is being replaced in the show by Harry Styles.
"Suddenly I have better feelings about VS".
A Victoria's Secret spokesman declined comment, referring questions about the model line-up to each woman's individual agencies.
Others, however, expressed regret, especially following Hadid's apology.
Speculation also has swirled over the participation of Russia's Julia Belyakova, Kate Grigorieva and Irina Sharipova, and Ukraine's Dasha Khlystun, after unconfirmed reports suggested they were denied Chinese visas.
The Victoria's Secret spokesman declined comment.
The annual show, viewed by millions worldwide, will see the planet's top models take to the catwalk, including Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Jasmine Tookes and Lais Ribeiro. Asked about this at a regular briefing, a spokesman for China's foreign ministry said he was unclear about the issue.
Hadid joins a list of foreigners who wore out their China welcome.
Most recently, as tensions rose between China and South Korea over a US missile defense system, some K-pop and K-drama stars had to cancel widely anticipated visits to China due to visa delays. He is still with the club.
