Turkeys arrive in Washington for White House pardon

Donald Trump pardons a turkey on November 21.

Drumstick and Wishbone have been living their best lives in Washington, D.C., since they checked into the five-star Willard InterContinental Hotel on Monday.

President Donald Trump has joked about killing former president Barack Obama's Thanksgiving turkeys during the traditional presidential turkey pardoning.

Trump joked that, while he has taken many steps to try to reverse Obama's executive actions, the White House counsel's office advised him not to try to overturn the Democratic president's previous pardon of Wishbone and Drumstick's predecessors. "Tater and Tot, you can rest easy".

Hi Drumstick. Oh, I think Drumstick is going to be very happy.

Trump Jokes He Won't Undo Obama Turkey Pardon

President Trump exercised his pardon power on Tuesday, sparing two turkeys named Wishbone and Drumstick from becoming Thanksgiving dinner. Let's just say Trump's hair got a little ruffled.

The annual pardoning ceremony only began in 1989 under President George H.W. Bush, though earlier presidents occasionally said they planned to spare the animals they were presented.

The Echo Press will continue to post updates on the presidential turkeys and their trip to the White House.

Following a short speech in which he thanked service members, police and emergency workers, Trump walked over to a table on which Drumstick had been placed.

Trump will depart the White House this afternoon to spend Thanksgiving in Florida.
