Pochettino pleased as Spurs finish above Real

Rose was not even named on the bench for Saturday's defeat to Arsenal as Pochettino felt he would be better off doing a fitness session at the club's training ground.

Rose confirmed he was "fuming" after he missed Tottenham's "biggest game of the season". "I think the whole team was very good, fantastic performance".

"I hope that it's going well with him and his mind and he feels that confidence to be available again to play".

"For me, I am happy that he was angry because it means he wanted to play".

"You have some idea because you prepare all the information under Pulis but it's true maybe they can change in a week", said Pochettino. That is why I was surprised.

Tottenham had a hard start to the season at their temporary home, failing to win any of their first three league fixtures at the venue, but since then they have been winners in five of their last six home matches in all competitions - a sequence of results that includes a hugely impressive 3-1 victory over reigning European champions Real Madrid. In front of me he was never upset or angry, he never showed that behaviour, he was normal.

"You can ask me about him or Georges-Kevin Nkoudou or Paulo Gazzaniga, or when (Kieran) Trippier or Ben Davies were not involved".

Pochettino, who spoke about how it feels to top their group, could have opted to rest players given a win over Apoel next month would also have secured first place and Tottenham also host West Brom on Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino often describes his commitment to Tottenham Hotspur in terms of a journey rather than an employment contract, which must be worrying for the club's rivals, as in three years he has already taken them a long, long way.

He said: "You can not guess what's going to happen in the future, and with myself it's the same".

"There's been no bust-up, there's been no argument, there's been no falling out". However, he did say he hadn't fallen out with his manager over the decision. "Everyone just needs to understand that me and the manager want the same thing for this season - we want to win something".
