As of Tuesday afternoon, Lady Bird has a 100% "Tomatometer" rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 170 "Fresh Reviews" and zero "Rotten Reviews". In other words, it is still possible that a rogue reviewer could tarnish Lady Bird's ideal score, though the huge number of positive reviews the film has already compiled would still easily make it one of 2017's best-reviewed movies.
Lady Bird's coming of age is not new to cinema, yet Gerwig's version is light, fresh and modern, despite being set in 2002.
Toy Story 2 (1999) - 163 reviews, 100%.
EVER SINCE THE trailer for Saoirse Ronan's new movie Lady Bird dropped in September, we have been eagerly awaiting the release of the film in Ireland. Perhaps Rotten Tomatoes will bring more attention to individual movie reviews, or spotlight well-deserving movies like Lady Bird that will likely fly under the radar of the larger moviegoing public.
Lady Bird is not the top movie of all time on the site, but none of the movies with a flawless score ahead of Lady Bird have received as many positive reviews. Still, even with all those positive reviews, its overall rating was 8.3 out of 10.
Want more perspective? "Citizen Kane" also has 100% positive critical response, with a 9.4 rating, but only 75 reviews total.
"This is completely incredible and so incredibly appreciated by the entire team that made Lady Bird", Gerwig said exclusively to RT, "We put our heart and souls into this movie, and the last step of this deeply collaborative art form of filmmaking is giving the film to the audience and the film critics".
Just last night, Ronan received an award for Best Actress at the IFP Gotham Independent Film Awards for her role in Lady Bird.
Originally released in just two cities, "Lady Bird" expanded to theaters nationwide November 24. Either way, use this as an excuse to go see Lady Bird immediately.
