Jimbo Fisher Reportedly Named Texas A&M HC After 8 Years at FSU

This week started with speculation on whether Jimbo Fisher was leaving and the week ended with Fisher resigned from his position to take the job at Texas A&M.

Fisher maintained Thursday that he expects to coach the Seminoles for their regular-season finale against Louisiana-Monroe, repeatedly refusing to answer whether he'll be back at Florida State in 2018. With the victory, the Seminoles moved to 6-6 on the season and became bowl-eligible, extending the streak to 36 straight seasons ending with a bowl game. His annual salary at FSU placed him near the top of all college football coaches, and his hiring is a clear sign that Texas A&M won't settle for being a second-tier school in the conference.

Fisher's buyout from Florida State is the sum remaining on the contracts of his assistants who are not retained, which would be in the range of $7 million.

This marks the first time since after the 1975 season that Florida State has had to embark on a coaching search, when it went on to hire Bobby Bowden.

"I don't know", Swinney said, when told of the move during a news conference for the ACC championship game. I've known him forever, when I was at Alabama and he was at Auburn.

FSU CB Levonta Taylor (via Twitter): "Just want to thank Jimbo for all he has done for me and the program I wish the best for you in Texas!"

In the interim, I have appointed associate head coach and defensive tackles coach Odell Haggins to serve as our head coach versus ULM. The excitement around Florida State is indisputable, and a tremendous opportunity awaits whoever is chosen as our new head football coach. "I've been waiting to come to this school and it's like really upsetting".

Several students WTXL spoke to say they strongly believe the football team's bad record this season played a large role and if the team had a strong season, this would not be happening. I don't have any doubt about that.
